Burned Man Organization/ Kimmel Fund/ Health Update

Greetings,

I wished to clarify a subtle but important update to the previous entry about the fund and fund raising.
This new venture is in development and evolving to a direction that it may help myself and others into the future affected by fire incidents, (like 9/11 in NYC, today the anniversary, or regionally as in San Bruno, CA or in the hills west of Boulder, Colorado) wherever they occur, which could be anywhere.

Initially the Burned Man is seeking fiscal sponsorship with a like minded non-profit. The SCAA is one option being checked out.  It is actually the Pescadero Foundation, but we'll see just how we dovetail with their stated mission.  It may be that we will collaborate with another burn support group.
I have also begun the paperwork to get a 501(c)3 status for the organization through the state of California.  (It is much easier in some other states....more patience)  It would be great to have a lawyer, a CPA and a few more business heads to comprise a board.

Soon to be posted will be communication tools in the form of a web site and Facebook presence.
Those are not done yet, but are coming down the pike as quickly as bureaucracy, energy and creation will allow.  The event will go on regardless of that status.  I also have established the procedure for filing tax exempt with the IRS.  For those that contribute, the value of items will be personally deductible for them as referenced to the Kimmel Fund account and as the Burned Man is required to report to government.  That will be done as you might expect in an annual filing.

The Burned Man organization will manage The Kimmel Fund.  Contributions of many kinds are being sought for silent auction at the actual event and for the eventual online presence.  There is an intention to make this bigger than a one time thing.  It is quite evident there is a consistent ongoing need for support. The consequences of fire incidents are also persistent and unexpected to those afflicted.  Should one contribute (item, service or coin), the intention is that you will be entitled to claim your value in kind for your own tax purposes, equated as a specific amount as a matter of course.

One venue is booked for the November 7th date.  The possibility exists that there may be a good sized attendance.  There are a couple of other places that have not responded to my inquiry which are larger and perhaps more versatile or accessible for the demographics we are canvasing.  I can imagine a time when there could be multiple venues in different locations operated by local chapters of people. Once these current local answers are in for this event we'll be able to designate where exactly, this initial gathering will take place.
I look forward to seeing the friends and folks during this benefit celebration for being alive and tactile.

The visits from the family members was very helpful.  My brother visited for the last week of August.  He brought a ukulele for me to learn to play.  Perhaps I can use in support of some of my most recent creative writing efforts.  There were slow walks on the beach, errands to be done, watering, gardening and other domestic support that is no longer an automatic thing to accomplish.  Slowly I am able to do more of all of it.  Neighbors and friends have been very generous, helping with meals and other needed support during this time of compromise for us.  All of this is greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

Thank you so much for the volunteer efforts and the mind sets to help usher in the larger scope of community and humanity, in regards to this new venture.  We will continue to give updates and keep folks posted.  Eventually these maneuvers will bear the fruit of relief from the seeds of compassion.

The wounds on my lower body are sealing in a slow kind of way and sometimes they reopen. (sigh..)  The progress now, is less dramatic than at the onset of this set of circumstances.  I am able to ride the static recumbent bike a little longer than last week.  The stairs still feel about the same.  Walking is a cross between Frankenstein and the Mummy and me.  So I should be set for Halloween!  Flexibility is in conflict with skin contraction.  Moisturizing is the constant thing to remember and practice.
I got measured for my compression garments.  Coming soon The Burned Man in tights!

Still wishing it never happened....however the supportive community building is the silver lining!

Glenn Kimmel
